What is Epi proColon®?
Epi proColon® is a blood test for colorectal cancer screening that can be ordered by your healthcare provider. The test is for people who are unwilling or unable to use screening tests recommended in the 2008 United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) guidelines. It is for average risk patients who are at least 50 years of age. There are no dietary or medication restrictions, no patient preparation, and no stool handling with Epi proColon.
The Epi proColon® test can be performed by a laboratory near you. It detects a specific biomarker called Septin 9. The biomarker is altered in colorectal cancer tumor cells more often than in normal cells, and can be found in your blood.
